this original 1862 dated pocket bible belonged to a killed in action Confederate soldier named HIRAM POMERY of the 1st Virginia Volunteer Infantry

some rounds of earlier manufacture were assembled with supplementary charge and PD fuzes or unfused without supplementary charge but fitted with a closing plug

and quite stiff

and in 1947 was redesignated as the 27th Engineer Combat Battalion

composition replacement however the other side is the original wood issue
